New Year’s Window Display, 2010

E.R. Butler & Co. celebrates 2010 with a radiant display of 28 mirrored disco balls of varying sizes: 8, 12 and 16 inches. The Austrian-made disco balls are somewhat randomly located within display vitrines and synchronized on rotational motors to reflect the computerized ERCO DALI Cantax LV halogen spots and LV LED varichrome display lighting system.

A large silver-sequined and white ostrich-feathered swan, designed and handmade by Rebecca Perrenod, is mounted in one of the central vitrines.

The solid walnut display vitrines, designed by E.R. Butler & Co. and fabricated by Parkerville Wood Products, are based on a design from the mid-19th century. They have been outfitted with a mirrored floor to reflect the overhead lighting, illuminating the underside of the disco balls and effectively doubling the amount of projected light. The effect simulates a sparkling, diamond-like "snow" balanced by the graceful glide of a swan on an imaginary reflective pond.

This luminous display of playful and dazzling white and colored light celebrates the beginning of the new year with a sense of beauty and peace.
